CDD-Ghana Statement on the Inauguration of the Constitutional Review Commission
18-Jan-2010

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development welcomes the inauguration of the Constitutional Review Commission on Monday, December 11th 2010. The inauguration of the Commission fulfills the Mills-NDC administration’s pledge to initiate a process of constitutional review within the first year of its tenure of office in response to calls by some sections of the public for a re-examination of some of the provisions of the constitution. CDD-Ghana joins other Ghanaians in commending the government for taking this important step.
CDD-Ghana also wishes to congratulate the members of the Commission on their appointment. We are highly encouraged by the statements of the Chairman and Executive Secretary indicating the Commission’s openness to a wide range of views and opinions from all Ghanaians including those of Ghanaians in the Diaspora.
We hope that the constitutional review exercise results in the reinforcement of the principles of democracy, good governance and social justice that lie at the core of the 1992 constitution.
The Center looks forward to working with the Commission over the course of the several months as it undertakes the task of reviewing and proposing revisions to the 1992 constitution.
