CDD/CODEO Interacts with NIA
The visit forms part of the Coalition’s program to familiarize itself with the operations of the NIA, and particularly to have a sense of some of the challenges confronting the Authority.
The interaction also enabled the CDD/CODEO team to appreciate the nature and the amount of work required to build a credible national identification system such as the biometric voter’s register.
In a short presentation, the Director of the NIA, Dr. William Ahadzie said a national identification system fosters national planning, law enforcement and national security among others.
He said the NIA is working to overcome the financial constraints that have derailed the Authority’s work.
Mr. Kojo Asante, Head of Governance and Legal Policy at CDD-Ghana thanked the Authority for hosting the delegation. He was particularly grateful to Dr. Ahadzie for sharing his rich experiences with the Center and hoped the collaboration between the NIA and other stakeholders would help the Authority to deliver on its mandate.
