Mission Statement
Focusing on building capacities through detailed research of the management of conflict: It also seeks to enable the diverse people of Nigeria, Africa and the world, be they black, white, Muslim, Christian, male, female, rich and poor to use their combined strength to build a world where all of us can live in peace.
Objectives of AAPW
- Publish case studies of community conflicts;
- Intervention by senior members of the Nigerian Corps of Mediators in these communities
- Organize conflict management workshops for elders, youth leaders and local government officials;
- Peace education programs for secondary and primary schools;
- Initiate conflict management training for religious leaders;
- Train and equip individuals and groups involved in pastoralist and other resource-based conflicts;
- Provide conflict management training for staff and students of universities; and
- Use the arts, culture and media to explore peace building in community conflicts.
A Brief Statement of Activities
- Studies, workshops and conciliation support of Tiv and Jukun leaders in Wukari, Taraba State;
- An outwars bound leadership and peace education program for youths, teachers, women leaders of community-based organizations in Ife/Modakeke, Mangu/Bokkos and Ugep;
- Workshops for the media on 'Interpreting Violent Conflict';
- Peace education for 14 schools in the Northern Ghana area affected by ethnic conflict in 1994;
- Establishment of a community-generated development program for youth in the Niger Delta;
- Training of peace communities in Zangon Kataf and Tafawa Balewa local governments; and
- Conflict management training for Muslim and Christian leaders in Kano.
