Mission Statement

To foster knowledge and a very sharp consciousness and reinforce the capacities of civil societies;

  • To develop and mobilise civil society;
  • Sustaining the process of political liberalisation in Africa; and
  • Consolidating the capacity of civil society in the areas of crisis management.

    Objectives of the Coalition

  • To enhance critical analysis of issues based on understanding and an enlightened search for answers to domestic, regional and global problems


  • To encourage as much as possible networking between the young and old generations of African leaders in the true spirit of experience-sharing and with the aim of establishing permanent channels of communication and co-operation;
  • To enhance and encourage the culture of informed and dispassionate critique of Africa'ssocial, economic and political problems in a changing world and, from various interllectual and scholastic schools of thought and African perspective, propose solutions to these problems;
  • To encourage the practice of using new methods for doing things, of enlightened and responsible social engineering and experimentation based on open discussions, transparency, responsibility and accountability with the aim of enhancing the search for appropriate and effective solutions to Africa's persistent social, economic and political problems;
  • Mobilisation of Malian NGOs;
  • Mobilisation against small arms proliferation; and
  • Working towards the unity of Mali through peacemaking, peacebuilding and disarmament;
  • Forming a national movement for peace and security;
  • Preparing the population for peace and security through electoral education;
  • Training for anti-violence schemes towards the African Cup of Nations tournament in January 2002

    A Brief statement of activities

  • Research dealing with issues of small arms proliferation;
  • Organising activities titles peace for women, which though not directly related to peace issues seeks to enhance the welfare and well-being of women;
  • Organising activities in various Afrtican countries and venues especially with Senegal;
  • Electoral education since it is believed that democratic governance has conflict prevention mechanisms;
  • Information gathering

    Concrete Achievements

  • Helped in the Resolution of the Tuareg conflict in the North of Mali,

  • Contributed to the formation of a coalition of Traditional chiefs and leaders as a means of preventing and resolving conflicts,
  • Bringing different groups together to cooperate on similar issues

    This is the largest coalition in Mali comprising 20 organisations, which can be found in their brochure.
