Mission Statement
The mission of the Centre is to equip senior officers of the armed forces and their civilian counterparts including the Police, with the knowledge of the causes of conflict, and the skills of monitoring and preventing conflict,
- to propagate sustainable and comprehensive peace and security as a global agenda for the 21st century and beyond,
- to organize and facilitate research on national, regional and global basis in the fields of conflict sources, conflict monitoring, conflict prevention, conflict resolution, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peace enforcement, and preventive diplomacy,
- to explore and document for posterity Nigeria's role and contributions to peacekeeping in particular and security in general under two departments. First, the Department of Training and Programs (DOTP) has three divisions, Training, Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution and the Department of Research and Publications (DORP) has two divisions, Research and Publications. The Research division has six units made up of Defense Studies, Regional Studies, Military History, Science & Technology, Governance and Public Policy and Statistics. The publications section has four units with Editorial, Printing Works, Distribution and Maintenance.
Objectives of CPRCR
- propagate a sustainable and comprehensive peace and security formula as a global agenda for the 21st century and beyond;
- organize and facilitate researches on national, regional and global basis in the field of conflict sources and capacity building;
- initiate actions and take such other steps which will enhance the resolution of conflicts, both domestically and internationally;
- coordinate peacekeeping training in Nigeria;
- explore and document for posterity Nigeria's role and contributions to peacekeeping in particular and international peace and security in general,
- promote or undertake such other activities, which in the opinion of the Board are necessary or expedient for the purpose of achieving the objectives of the Centre.
A Brief Statement of Activities
- publication of the Centre's Journal, Africa Peace Review
- organization of zonal conferences on Enhancing peaceful coexistence in Nigeria
- carrying out research on the US sponsored African Crisis Response Initiative (ACRI)
- plans have reached advanced stages for the organization of a training workshop for potential peace force commanders and a national workshop for Defense correspondents of media houses.
